Valhalla Surf Skis
Available from "FastKayak"

Valhalla Surf Ski Products are built by Keith Keillor of
San Diego, California. Two of these four models are currently available,
in order from left to right they are:
- Victory Special ($2,595.00 - fiberglass), 19.5 feet long 18" wide. It is
very narrow in the bow and allows for a good catch and lots of rotation.
Weight is 28 to 32 pounds depending on which type of construction you order.
This boat has a built in bailer that doubles as a speedo. At about 6mph
the water is flush with the footwell. When it is flush with its concavity
you're going about 7mph. When you here a slight sucking sound you're going
at least 8mph! If you have to have a real speedo there is a nice spot forward
of the foot well to mount a "Speedmate".
Like all Valhalla's it has an adjustable foot plate to accommodate various
leg lengths for the rudder controls. New for the 2004 models is
a slightly lower seat for increased stability and a build in water bottle
holder. This is a very fast boat that has won a bunch of races, if you
can't win with this boat in the open ocean class it is not Keith's fault!
*Note: This boat is designed for racers and requires good balance skills
& It just came in 1st overall (including the Rowing shells) during
the 2007 San Diego Bay 2 Bay 20 mile ocean race. Doing a shallow water
race or a race with lots of kelp? Get the optional kick up carbon rudder
and don't risk a through hull rudder.
- Valhalla Racing Kayak,
This boat is a one off built new for 2001. It was designed for the USCA
open class sprint nationals and won! A rule change for 2002 now allows
surf skis to compete and as a result it will not go into production. It
shares the same basic hull design as the Special but decked like
a touring kayak with fore & aft bulkheads, no bailer, has a rear hatch
& a over the stern rudder. A standard sea kayak spray skirt fits. The
seat is a bit lower than the pre 2003 model Specials and as a result
it is a bit more stable (still not a beginner boat). If you want to roll
it thigh straps would need to be added. Unlike most kayaks that have the
rudder pedals on the sides - this boat uses adjustable heel braces with
rudder pedals so your push is more forward with less side to side movement.
A wonderful race kayak and great winter training boat too bad it isn't
available - bug Keith about it - maybe he will build it!
- Victory, this long
time favorite boat has the same #'s as the Special but is fuller in the
bow. It is a tiny bit more stable in rough conditions. It used to win lots
of races until we introduced the Special!
- Viking International($2,450.00 - fiberglass), a lifeguard class ski. 19 feet
long 19" wide. Same great features as the Victories with a bow foil
to keep it from pearling. Much more forgiving than the other 3 boats. If
you are racing the lifeguard class or just want a real fun boat and could
care less about racing the open class this is your boat! News Flash:
I took a Viking International to the 2006 USCA Nationals where it passed
the tec inspection for the Touring Class!
